TESTIMONIES . . .
I travel extensively for business and I always felt guilty about leaving Tyson and Otis at the kennel until I discovered Old Salem Kennel. My dogs start to jump around the car when we turn down the road to their place.
Janice and Todd are knowledgeable and caring. I know they really pay attention to "the boys" because Todd mentioned that they had some plaque build up on their back teeth, you only notice those details if you look.
They are special people and treat my dogs as they would their own. My thanks and highest recommendation for Old Salem Kennel.

Old Salem Kennel is one of those places you hope to come across, but rarely ever find. And yet in the middle of the Oconee County countryside is a place where they know a lot about dogs and people.
If you want, you can drop your dog off at Old Salem and they’ll train your dog. You’d pick up an obedient dog, but you will have missed the opportunity to learn from Janice and Todd Harvey. They excel at training and teaching.
I’ve been lucky to train my Drahthaar, Gus, with Todd. I’ve learned more from him than from the growing shelf of books I’ve bought on training gun dogs. Now, I mostly use those books to freshen up my memory when Todd isn’t around, or to ask him questions. I’ve also attended a fair share of training weekends with my Verein Deutshce Drahthaar chapter, but I’ve learned the most working with Todd.
He’s great at breaking down training exercises into simple, intuitive steps that build upon each other and flow into a finished dog.
I also board my dog at Old Salem. Gus is always excited to see Todd. I think that shows how effective he is at handling dogs, and reinforces his expertise with dogs. Anyone who has ever force-broken a dog knows what I mean. No hard feelings ever remain even though the training can be challenging.
To say Todd is a Dog Whisperer seems hokey, but I’m fairly certain he speaks dog.

Hi Todd and Janice. We have been so pleased with the
training Cody and Cassie received at your wonderful facility. They are still
doing great and have been a joy to take for walks, etc. since you have worked
with them. We have recommended your facility to many of our families and hope
you have had the opportunity to do some training and to see some of our
wonderful puppies. Looking forward to using your kennel again in the future.
You did a great job with our two English Creme Goldens. Thanks for everything.

Our experience with Old Salem Kennel has been great, from both training and boarding perspectives. After getting Belle, a golden/lab puppy, a year and a half ago, to retrieve birds, I needed help with training. A friend told me to check with Todd and Janice Harvey at Old Salem Kennel. I had no dog training experience and wondered if I could learn to train a bird dog. Well, I must say, Todd and Janice began to work with Belle and me on obedience and retrieving skills once or twice a month and Belle made good, steady progress. The Harveys, with many years of experience in hunting, and field trial training, are extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of dog care. We worked on basic obedience issues as well as casting and retrieving bumpers in a variety of situations. Todd helped me obtain and learn to use a Dogtra e-collar. About a year later, Belle retrieved her first bird for me. While there are always skills to learn or review, Belle has become a great companion, handling about any social situation, and she shows good retriever potential, too.
Todd and Janice board dogs as well as train them. Being retired Martha and I travel a good bit to visit grandchildren in Maryland, to the beach, and to the mountains. We feel absolutely comfortable leaving Belle at Old Salem. A picture of contentment, Belle, with tail wagging, gets out of the truck and goes to find her spot in the kennel. With a fenced area to play in, she enjoys the company of the Harvey dogs. At this point, she acts like and is treated like a member of the Old Salem family.
Whether you are looking for help with obedience or hunting skills or you just need a good place to board your dog, you should consider the highly professional services of Old Salem Kennel.

I was very pleased with the training that Old Salem Kennel provided in my dogs. Todd and Janice Harvey did a great job first evaluating my dogs, and then training each one in a specified discipline. I was impressed with the on-going communication about the progress of how far my dogs could go. Old Salem Kennel, Inc. also understands the concept of keeping the dog as a pet.

Cornell & Brook
Brook will be two years old the end of November and she's so grown up, so quickly. Haven't had to use the e-collar in a month. Yahoo!! What a great pet she has turned out to be. And what a great fishing buddy. I'm constantly getting praise about her behavior on the trout stream. You just can't imagine the number of people with bird/water dogs (mainly labs) that cannot bring their dogs fishing because they would tear up the waters. That is such an awful thing to me, to have a pet that you can't take places with you - everywhere with you. I've explained to so many of these people about the work you two did with Brook; carry your card in my wallet to write down information for them. Again, thank you for all you taught us about behavior.
